Join us for the Jim Clark Celebration Weekend to commemorate an extraordinary milestone in motorsport history - the 60th anniversary of Jim Clark’s remarkable victories in his 2nd Formula 1 World Championship, Indianapolis 500, Tasman Series, French Formula 2, and British Formula 2. In all, he competed in sixty races across the different classes of cars. He even came 2nd in the saloon car championship, having only competed in some of the races due to conflicts with other championships.
The event takes place at Duns Castle Estate, TD11 3NW on Saturday 28 June and Sunday 29 June, 10.00 am to 4 pm, both days.
Held in a relaxed atmosphere in the grounds of Duns Castle, with a showground of Lotus and other cars and bikes on display. The centre piece will be the rare opportunity to witness the 1965 Lotus 38/1 next to the 1967 Lotus 38/7; the Border Reivers Racing Team D-Type Jaguar and the 356 Porsche, and an array of Lotus Cortinas, some driven by Jim Clark.
The plan is to have two runs of iconic cars along Castle Drive, one in the morning, one in the afternoon, so you can engage your senses, sight, hearing and smell to transport yourself back to the era of 1965. There will be plenty of opportunities to learn more about Jim Clark and what he achieved, and why his achievements are unlikely to ever be equalled.
There is also a rumour that Lotus Cars will be at the event, unveiling a special car to celebrate Jim Clark's achievements, yet to be confirmed.
Want to go for the fastest time of the day? A Scalextric track has been set up recreating Silverstone in 1965. Channel your inner competitive spirit and have a go. There are food, craft and Jim Clark Trust merchandise stalls, along with a pipe band to add to the atmosphere.
Lotus Drivers Club members, driving a Lotus, VX220, or Caterham 7, have been allocated a pitch on the main showground. The charge is £10 per day. This includes entrance for the car, driver and one passenger. As we are in the main showground, the organisers have asked us to be on site between 9.00 and 10.00 am. Leaving should ideally be done after the show is finished at 4 pm, although it is understood it may be possible to leave earlier with the organiser's permission. The spaces will be allocated on a first registered, first served basis.
To take advantage of the offer, contact Jim Love, the Club’s Scotland Area Organiser, by emailing j.love@lotusdriversclub.org.uk. Please provide your name, passenger's name, car model, year and registration before 31 May. Jim will ensure you are registered for the showground entrance and inform you how to pay.
If you want to come to the event but not be on the showground, there is public parking. Tickets can be booked through the Jim Clark Trust website before the event at £12.50 per person or £15.00 per person on the day.
If you have already bought your tickets through the Jim Clark Trust and want to display your car on the showground with the Club, please contact Jim Love directly, providing your details as requested above, along with your order reference number. Assuming you are accepted onto the showground, the Jim Clark Trust will try and organise a refund for the tickets already purchased.
After the event on the Saturday, Jim Love has arranged for a meal at the Jim Clarke Bistro, TD11 3BY. The meal is booked for 6 pm and there are 20 spaces available. Please make Jim aware when you register for the event that you would like to attend. Jim will explain the menus and prices. Places will be allocated on a first registered, first served basis.
While you are in the area, why not visit the Jim Clark Museum? It is also in Duns, a few minutes walk from the Bistro and Duns Castle Estate. It is a haven of information on Jim Clark presented in a light and easy-to-digest way. For a small fee, there are also route maps that Jim Clark often drove. Today, these routes make a great drive in our cars. Entrance is £9.50 for adults, £9.00 for concessions and £4.50 for juniors. Check their website for more details.
